SPEAKER_06Hey, what's up? Man, Mark, you just missed it. He just played uh Limelight from Rush.
SPEAKER_02Um, you know my nobody nobody out of North America even knows who Rush is. Oh, oh, everybody loves Rush. You guys like Gary Moore who is awesome himself, but so the cool thing is, so you mentioned so Rush is on tour.
SPEAKER_06Uh they have this woman from Germany who's playing drums to replace Neil Peert. Everybody always gets his name wrong. Neil Peert, Neil Peert, Peirce, Peert, Peert, or as these most most people call him the professor.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Um it's uh and so I found a really good clean deal of the tour the show in LA on YouTube and watched a bunch of it, and also the cool uh that the song Time Stands Still, and they brought on Amy Mann. Yeah, yeah. Incredible, just incredible. But it was just and it and they did all these tributes to Neil in different parts of the concert. Um and then and at the very end, they did some funny one. I don't know if they made it for this or this from a movie. It was like it had Paul Rudd and um uh is it Mike Siegel or whatever? Uh not Mike. Anyway, they were all dressed up like they were Rush, and they were arguing about how to say Neil Pirate. They're arguing on how to say Neil Pirate's last name. It was awesome. Um, you know, when you think about Rush, I think my the first thing that comes to my mind is my wife says, Rush is such a guy band. If you go to a rush concert, you're not gonna see women there ever, ever. You won't see any girls there. It's not like it's a total guy band, you know. You know, any band that's playing 15-minute rock up, you know, of 2112 and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02Not like not like uh it's not like uh Motley Crue or a poison concert. That's about that's about uh probably 60-40, 60% women and 40% of boyfriends going along with the women.
SPEAKER_06I just think I just think what's great about rush is that you have three guys and they're the masters of their instruments, you know what I mean? They really are, and so to have that level of musicianship is just unbelievable. You're right. When everybody talks about music and rush, they're always talking about Neil Pert because he's the greatest drummer. But um, but to your point, Leonard, and you just played it. Alex Lysa is one of the greatest guitarists ever. And if you listen to their catalog, it's unbelievable the stuff he wrote.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, just Limelight, just listen to the solo. It's rigging.
SPEAKER_06The solo is to me, some of the best riffs in rock history. You know, I was watching it you know, after the Amy Man thing, it's like, all right, now we're gonna do a song about our hometown, which is YYZ, and you know, Rush still did instrument middles, even when they started doing more short form songs that are more YYZ. Yeah, they did why Zoe.

SPEAKER_01This is from a foundation, they made one and it goes to hospital to visit children that are in stays in hospitals. Oh wow, and uh that's wonderful.
SPEAKER_06That's wonderful. Wow, I love that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's good stuff, man. Is it powered by physical AI?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. So I actually I um there is like a like a real size R2D2 pink one that goes to the hospitals, yeah. And and then I it I was in a um in a show and it showed up in into the scenario, and then at the end of the show, it was still uh there, and I saw a guy with uh with a remote, like and I and I and I thought, okay, I need to talk with that guy. Yeah, and and we started talking, he opened the uh the yeah, the stomach of the R2D2 there, and yeah, it was it was powered by Arduinos. That's so cool. Of course it was to move the head. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was super interesting.
SPEAKER_06So you know it's funny you talk about the nano um in chatting with Marcello, and he was, you know, because like like hopefully all of you are gonna give me a little blurb, a little quote for the new book. But Marcello gave me a nice quote. Oh yeah, but he but he also gave me some thoughts about how I talked about Arduino in the book because I had a lot of the what is it, the MKR and some of the other ones, and he's like, uh, some of that stuff's a little vintage. Maybe you should talk about nano. I'm like, oops, okay.
SPEAKER_02I love that guy, man.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, he's great.
SPEAKER_02What is that? Is that a oh? Yeah, that's serious. Is that the IQ? Oh, oh yes, Ventuno, yeah, yeah. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01So this is the new Bentuno Q. This is powered by an IQ 8 uh Qualcomm chip here. Yeah, right. It can have three cameras at least uh here. Then um uh it what it's interesting, it has the Raspberry Pi pins here. Oh it you can still plaque Arduino uh hats, it has an M2 connector as well. Okay, wow can ports and US Ethernet.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, I thought it was so funny. Um, I was looking at this post that Dylan Patel put out there that completely trashed Qualcomm, and then all these like IoT developers, um startups started jumping in and talking about how Qualcomm's so hard to work with, and how Qualcomm won't provide, you know, won't deal with this unless we have huge volumes. That's like no friggin' shit, of course not. I mean, you know, that's why you have the Arduino acquisition, and then they shit on that at the same time, and it's like, what the hell is your problem? And you know, these people are just going mental. First off, none of them really understand the edge or IoT. You know, like Dylan, he and his crew are all like the AI super computing stuff, right? The data center. So, yeah, they have numbers, they do all the research, blah, blah, blah there, but then you know, projecting down into the edge, it's these guys are now trying to act like they know all this stuff and inciting all this drama. And it's like, no, you know what? You don't understand the strategy, and no nobody seems to um be comfortable with what's happening, but it is what people seem to want. Do you know what I'm saying? At the end of the day, in terms of a spectrum of uh support for the ecosystem that Qualcomm is looking to provide. But I just think it's just funny how like these startups think like, okay, if you look at traditionally what uh Qualcomm was doing, they were doing more of the large-scale industrial IoT stuff, if they even um you know were doing it. You know what I'm saying? They're looking for scale-out solutions uh with their core Qualcomm, you know, portfolio of SOCs and stuff like that. But you know, for that lower level stuff, yeah, the economics don't work out for them. That's why they made all these acquisitions and trying to make things scale down all the way to those tiny little devices that require uh like energy harvesting, right? In order to uh power them because they're either so you know constrained in terms of power or they're being deployed remotely. So yeah, it's just comical um to see this kind of stuff. And then now people who are start starting to trash other people for vibe coding um their research. So vibe people who vibe code research shitting on other people for vibe coding their research. Wow, wow a shit show. All right, all right, yeah. Welcome to Friday!

SPEAKER_06We'll need to watch it again because at least I did see something hopeful on LinkedIn from Mark. You know, I saw a video of his, and he's ready to come out and help people with their projects. There are yeah, their edge, their IoT, whatever they need. Talk about the king of developer relations. Yeah, you know, it's it's all good.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, now it's I I have been one year old uh worker at Qualcomm and Edge in Pools, really happy. Yeah, and uh yeah, and uh that that's unusual. You are something that it's super interesting being at Qualcomm, it's that you meet the people and it's like, yeah, been 30 years uh working at Qualcomm. Like 40. So it's like, oh wow, people here. Yeah, yeah, that's great. That's that's really great. I mean, I think it talks a lot about the company culture.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so you're enjoying it? You like it? Yeah, I'm fine. So far, so good, yeah. So are you gonna are you gonna move to San Diego?
SPEAKER_02No, no, I don't think so. Actually, you know, Europe is still where a lot of the vibe is anyway, so yeah. There you go.
SPEAKER_01You think so? Yeah, right, right. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06No, he's the first person from the US to say that Europe is where the vibe is.
SPEAKER_02And you know, investment in technologies as well as investment in you know, military um system uh uh you know development that's becoming hot, right? And that drives a lot of innovation, especially the stuff in the field like what we're seeing with uh Ukraine, right? And uh, you know, countries like Sweden, which a lot of people don't know, you know, make some pretty serious weapon systems, right? Highly competitive weapon systems.
SPEAKER_06For those of you who think that Saab no longer exists because you haven't seen a car from Saab in decades, they make submarines and air-independent propulsion that's quieter than America's nuclear subs. So it's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02Pretty cool and you're gonna um uh tactical fighters.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and any any road and uh can land within like you know, I remember the last time Saab really tried hard to sell to sell cars in the US, and they had an ad campaign that was like a Saab fighter jet, and it's like Saab cars, the Saab cars are born from jets, yeah, you know, and so they were just trying to get across that our heritage is we build fighter jets, advanced stuff, and if we can do that, we can build the coolest car ever, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, the Draken, the Vigan, and the Gripen.
SPEAKER_06I do miss from the early 90s still I I do miss like maybe late 80s, early 90s, the Saab 900 turbo uh convertible, really beautiful car, just great design. You know, um I always thought they were groupy. The Saab 9000 lost all this eccentricity. I don't even know how to talk anyway. But uh but the nine the 900 it was it was very unique looking, you know?
SPEAKER_01I'm talking about cars. What's the car situation in the US? It's as well flooded with Chinese cars or the tariffs uh no, there's no Chinese cars.
SPEAKER_06They're not they're not they're blocked out of the US. Yeah, um, they're worried that the electronic systems are you know send the data back to Beijing. And so uh I think the main way they're blocking them also is giant, I think it's a hundred percent tariff on every car. And so you're right. I know you bought a BYD uh car. How is that anyway? Is it is it good? Has it been a good card?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's very good.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Stephanie's coming on, cool. Yeah, yeah, I would say similar technology than the Tesla Y. Okay. And cheaper, way cheaper. But cheap, way cheaper. And I think that's we have as well tariffs. We also have tariffs in Europe for Chinese technology. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_02But uh yeah, yeah, I mean, well, I mean, the Germans have to kind of protect themselves, you know what I'm saying? I mean, I I think it's totally understandable, otherwise the Chinese will uh just from economics standpoint will just dump those.
SPEAKER_06And that's actually that's actually the word dump, uh the technical term of dumping. And so, like, you know, a one country is really good at producing steel, and then another country just starts dumping steel on the market really cheap to try to put the other country out of business. And so that's how they think about the Chinese cars, that they're dumping the Australians think the Chinese dump on them. And so uh yeah, it's the same thing because you're right, the the BYD is so inexpensive, um, it would undercut the price of just about every car in the US, you know. Because you're right, the Tesla Y is the most popular car right now. Um, but if the BYD was all over the US, people would probably buy it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it'd be game over. But you know what, uh, EVs are not all that they're cracked up to be. Like we have we're like full-on EV household. You really need to combine it with solar, and um, because you know, energy rates can be different uh in different states, different um, you know, uh municipalities and and such.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And the um the kind of rate plans are changing uh because now um you know you would have to pretty much charge during the day. Um there's like peak, let's say, solar production. Yeah, because you know everyone has solar in California and they want to contribute and you know get a dollar for dollar, right? Now it's like an oversupply of solar contribution. And so um, but at night there's no uh there's no contribution. So now they're trying to get everyone to buy batteries and then whatever power you've stored in your batteries to sell it back to the grid during the peak hours, right? But don't buy a power cars, yeah. But most people don't have their cars at home during the day, right? That's right. So charge them at night, like they take their phone. It it just becomes a really, really goofy thing, and you really have to think through does an Eevee make sense for me? You know, it's a lot more complicated. But what's the alternative? Uh just buying ice. I mean, ice is doing uh hybrid vehicles are doing great, you know. Ice, ice, bad. Actually, Toyota made the better bet than everyone else. They didn't go full on Eevee. They said, you know what? Okay, everyone, you know, all the American cars can go and do all this EV transformation and pivot. We'll just uh we'll just capitalize on the vacuum that they create for themselves. And that's what Toyota did.
SPEAKER_06And yeah, my wife Kathy, she's got a hybrid uh SUV and she's getting like 40 miles to the gallon. And so, yeah, it's been good. But you're right, it all started with Toyota and the Prius, right? Um, you know, and so uh gosh, I remember when that was the hottest thing for a while. So you are the first person I've heard who's ever saying anything slightly not good about EVs. Usually anyone I talk to who has an EV, all they talk about is like they're a preacher or something and they want to convert me or something to EVs. And so the fact that you're saying it's not for everyone, I've never heard anyone ever say that. I've heard everyone say, you're a Neanderthal, horrible human being for driving a combustion engine car. You're destroying the planet, and you need to get a Tesla right now. I'm gonna drive you down to the Tesla dealership. Don't worry about the fact that when they when your Tesla's broken, don't worry about the fact that the diesel-powered truck that comes to pick up your car defects.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, you know, the thing is that you live and you learn and things change. You know, nobody thought that you know, with all these um subsidies for solar and promotion of like green energy, uh, would you uh uh find an overcapacity of a certain kind of harvesting technology or generation technology, which is solar, where during it, you know, you need sun, right? Sun is not there all the time. And then now uh, you know, it's it's just like uh these AI systems. You find out that, oh, you actually what's now more important is this other thing like networking or memory, right? In um solar uh you know power, you need batteries, and so now there everybody is trying to force with the the rate plans and everything like that, force people to buy batteries. So for this new house that we live in, we have to buy these very expensive batteries, otherwise, it completely makes no sense. In other words, the energy uh the power companies don't want you to really uh sell the energy you generated. They don't want to deal with you, right? Because you will be on grid uh in in a certain way. This is because you're import.
SPEAKER_01But but don't you think that this opens like a market of uh for uh new businesses that will recycle old batteries from EV cars? into into these systems. Yeah. For example. I think a lot of innovation and recycling and second life for batteries.
SPEAKER_06So Stephanie, I'm wondering, did did Chevy ever make like a hybrid Tahoe or Suburban?
SPEAKER_00You know, I'm a big Tahoe driver, but no you are. I mean it's probably the first time this this year has been the first time I'm actually considering a hybrid. And it may be too late for me because my son's about to start driving and really probably 90% of my mileage is driving to Fredericksburg and back, which is four hours during the school year. You know, a day. One hour there, one hour back, one hour there, one, you know, so um he'll start driving in November. So I mean I won't have the mileage that I've been putting on since forever. Right. So but the fact that I'm actually you know five years ago I was like laughing at electric out here in the hill country because of the lack of infrastructure. And there are a lot of there are a lot of availability now for to go charge your vehicle in in even in the rural areas out here. Believe it or not. But my husband would be the kind just like you guys were saying he would have the full battery and plug and everything at our home he would never rely on yeah yeah yeah.
SPEAKER_06Well yeah it starts at home for sure.
SPEAKER_00And we and we already have like three different R V um plugs which I think that I think for the most part those that you can actually plug into those um because of of the way they're set up I think that they actually work with most electric as well.
SPEAKER_06Yeah to do the level two charging or whatever. Yeah I gotcha. Yeah that makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah but don't get me wrong it if you have the right setup in the right situation it's freaking awesome. I mean our energy bill is like you know pretty much negative right um so we get all the transportation that we need right um we don't have we don't ever go to the gas station we don't we don't even give a crap about the price of gasoline so we watch everyone about that and go we don't care but um it it it you are literally managing your own energy and you have to be active about it and AI doesn't help.
SPEAKER_00Well and I think for us like I think for a lot of the Texas ranchers and farmers you know they still heavily rely on their equipment to be you know diesel and you know gas.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah yeah farm ranching equipment it's all diesel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah but if you go to like if you went to the consumer electronics show you saw that not only are they like starting to dabble in all kinds of autonomous you know farming and ag equipment but also electric. So I mean that so the question is for the industry well will when will we get there? But think about think about all the construction industry the farming industry the ag industry they are going to be laggers in terms of adoption. But I don't know I think that they're they're so reliant on fuel that they may be and it's very expensive to replace a fleet. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I think they have bigger worries now and the cost of fertilizer is probably freaking them out or access to um fertilizer is probably freaking them out more than anything.
SPEAKER_00That in in Texas you know it's always I think behind the scenes a a worry for farmers and ag is the lack of water or the future lack of water and that's an issue. Yeah that's right you know I was in Maryland uh and um so I was at an event um hosted by CNM to talk and I was invited to talk about AI AI and AI and I was I heard that the east coast is suffering a drought right now there isn't really yeah and I'm like you gotta be effing kidding me so we're driving to the you know the uh the uh you know the the rural outskirts of um of Baltimore and it's just lush and green everywhere it's just absolutely beautiful right and I'm thinking how the hell are you having a drought right but in apparently in Raleigh and North Carolina there's uh there's a lot of areas that are now tinder boxes and I I I you know um I asked him are you serious I mean we're talking about like dry you know brush and stuff like that and he goes yeah and um and it's weird because right now uh everyone thinks that California is the place where all the fires happen right now it's Colorado now it's like uh pretty much the entire east coast or the east now which is also northern Arizona northern Arizona and what's just southern Colorado they really have like they have wildfires there you don't hear about it but my husband was up there flying um on a ranch in northern Arizona that he does every year and he's like you can see the fires like when you get up in the helicopter you can see them everywhere so and I don't think people you know people tend to like concentrate the fact that there are droughts to California and they don't really think about that's a good point.
SPEAKER_06Yeah you know it's it's a problem everywhere. All right so Leonard you need can you let me share my screen I want to show you a picture of something I created back in 2014.
SPEAKER_02Yes I love your water plan for the for the US please because there was this horrible drought back then in the Midwest um but yeah it's this thing here um it's gonna have a super El Nino so it's gonna be an absolute nightmare.
SPEAKER_06And so yeah this picture here was I was thinking you know we have all these natural gas pipelines and oil pipelines all over the country and you know the Middle East and lots of other places in Australia they have to do a lot of desalination and uh and we had a horrible drought back there in 2012 2013 and the Midwest was all burning up and all the crops were dying. And so I just imagine if we lined all the coastline of the country um with desalination plants powered by wind, solar and nuclear and then we use the pipeline so maybe we have to build some pipelines to move that water inland. Anyway, I remember writing up all this whole strategy of how to do this thing and learning pump stations and how people are like how are you going to get the water over the Rocky Mountains and stuff like that. And so yeah it's not it's not easy but it's pumps. Yeah it's not easy.
SPEAKER_00I remember Rob talking about this conversation because we've talked about droughts because you know I think there's been quite a few times where we where we've been on IoT coffee talk in the Texas in the middle of a massive drought but one of the things that we talked about before was somewhere near Big Ben they discovered this you know water source and even sand source which they created pipelines that move to the Permian basin up north where all that wool is being produced because they need water and they need like a specific very fine filtered sand. So the there's infrastructure there I think for and I know in Texas for a different water movement because of the oil industry I just don't know about all the other states and where they are with pipelines.
SPEAKER_01Yeah no you're right I mean something like this would cost trillions of dollars well you yeah and Europe has like the same issues too right don't you guys mark I don't know yeah yeah absolutely yeah last year there were like massive fires weren't there yeah no every like in Italy like friggin' yeah in Italy in Greece in Spain there are massive fires yeah absolutely and we yeah we need to we we are now in Barcelona yeah drinking water from from the sea absolutely 100% so the the country has started to plan no how to get uh water not from the mountains or the rain but from the sea yeah and I think in in other places uh well I heard that also happening as well speaking of that you know you you reminded me about the the runoff from the mountains and then you know when the snow caps start to melt but I also heard that one of the reasons why like northern Arizona because they get they got a lot of their water from the snow melt yeah and there wasn't as much snow in the winter this past winter so they just all their water sources were dry and then of course they didn't get rain so it that's right that that reminded me of that right but then you know we have to remember what one of the one of the most popular uses of water in Arizona and New Mexico and these other areas are right which is water the air golf how do we sprinkle yeah well that too I mean like why don't we build like stuff that consumes the most water and the most yeah but but you know what happened in right here in in Catalonia what happened during the COVID 19 situation was that our swamps were almost at 100% of what full of water wow so no it was no I I I don't know if it was 2020 or 2022 something like that. So the um what they decided is okay we are gonna empty our swamps because electricity is too expensive. Maybe that was for the Ukrainian war maybe for so and then they decided to do that and and they empty all the swamps and then it it was as well a drought season and during the next two years it then rained so it was like okay so we don't have water at all so who took that decision and yeah and the funny story is that the energy generated by the swamps it's almost free but the electrical companies didn't want to give the electricity for free so there is a law that if you if that the that they are gonna charge electricity um at least in Spain if you if if the um if the company just generates at least during one hour so they they will charge you the maximum uh cost of energy uh during one day at least during one hour so during one hour they were burning coal and the other 23 hours they were using the water from the swamps to generate electricity so they were uh charging the citizens by the uh by the price of the coal energy about the coal instead of the so it was super expensive energy and in the meantime they were uh emptying the swamps and uh and letting us know that we will we would have no water you'll have no water totally fine based on what you've just said I think um a good future career for people will be uh to be a um uh conservationist because those um well no just period you know having multi-domain understanding of different conservation topics so that you know uh policies don't go off the rails and create a major crisis you know where something that looks obvious at at the moment it could create a catastrophic uh situation for the future for everyone and that I mean you know going back to idiocracy we're at a moment where idiocracy could just completely uh um you know subject and a a a community to uh becoming a ghost town you know you have no water you have no you know electricity is too expensive you're I mean it turned into tombstone Arizona yeah we're and then everyone has to live you'll have chat GPT you'll have chat GPT on your phone or what do you what do you mean you start to think Leonard that it may it may come down to us personal citizens to start doing you know the stewardership stewardship of our own because if the corporations or in some kind of entity or government entity is not doing it so who is who's gonna do this?
SPEAKER_06Yeah water storage do it yeah yeah but you know I'm thinking in the in the long term as well I I don't think there is a long term vision community people you're so right mark there's no long-term vision you're right Stephanie and it's a shame that it would have to be up to all of us to try to save the planet from the water and all the other things the dying crops I remember when I was writing about the the droughts and it was just like you know people like oh well we'll figure out a way but the crops will die the livestock will die and then pretty soon the reason humanity will die is you're gonna starve to death actually because all of your food sources are all burning up and drying up and you cannot grow anything or have livestock and it's and I wish you're right Mark there's no long-term vision I don't see our governments taking the long view corporations don't take a long view they take a quarter by quarter how much money am I making how much you love at me lately uh and God I sound like some kind of radical don't I um but no no but this is why I'm why I'm impressed by the Chinese corporation can sound radical sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah oh I love that quote you need you need to post that you need to post that Stephanie Common Sense yeah it's radical it's radical yeah oh my gosh wow but this is why I'm so impressed by the Chinese government uh long-term vision decisions and execution right so they decided so in the 70s they they were one of the poorest countries in the world China yeah it's true so they they stopped taking decisions and executing and they did a lot of executing you're right they visualized a lot of yeah yeah of course yeah but everyone but they they're they're using the same formula the Japanese and the South Koreans used you know um so anyone who knows anything about Asian history recent modern Asian history you know um they just follow the to uh coattails of guys that you know use their current method to great effect because Korea South Korea was one of it was one of the poorest countries in the world in the 50s and the 60s um but you know um yeah this whole idea of like communities having to the band together but you know I I I mean it's interesting you you guys it made me think about like here locally there is there's this place called Sovereignty ranch and when I first heard about it I thought it was I I didn't know what it was but it's I went there and got some food because I saw that it was a restaurant.
SPEAKER_00But when I got there and I've been following them on Instagram and all these other places they're doing a lot more it's farm the table stuff but they have their own cattle their own goats they have their own milk they have their like all the gardening plants everything there um but they had this huge forum and they had people from all over the world come and Bandera Texas of all places and it's really off the beaten path to get to this place by the way um but you know they're they're doing the water storage they're it's extremely green and they're they're really focused on no chemicals everything fresh homegrown um and it's a full lifestyle type place um and believe it or not they had people from the federal government that were there at part of this this was like maybe two months ago that they had all the people in town but it didn't get any media attention it didn't get the coverage and I was surprised because it was it were it was like groups of naturalists arm to table people conservationists and it was all these people that came together to talk about what we're talking about right here on IoT Coffee Talk and it's just right up the road from me. And I'm sure there are other places very much like this and they've just they're just taking things they're taking local control and doing things on their own.
SPEAKER_02Yeah well you know what I'll tell you why no one uh it got no coverage there's a company last week that IPO'd uh which has a mission of populating dead planets with humanoid robots that is the priority of investment that is the priority of governments right now that is the prior so in other words the reason why there's no attention to any of the things that matter to um communities is because everybody wants to create a community in space um with these AI driven human just remember just remember leonard in space no one can hear you scream no one can hear you if something bursts out of your chest right I mean no it's like social media you know whatever you reward ends up being what you get so if you know you reward like shit stuff well you're gonna get shit and so if you are rewarding uh the agenda of populating dead planets right moon is a I mean it's not a planet but you know the moon is a moon populate that what if it's a space station have you heard some people saying they think the moon is hollow and there's something else inside yeah yeah yeah yeah but but you know what what's so funny now I remember when Obi-Wan first said that's no moon oh yeah I love that but oh my god but think about this for a moment though because you know like I I saw this like little news blurb that um the Chinese uh had launched a rocket and it had catastrophically uh uh had a rapid uh disassembly in uh the exact orbit of where Starlink's stuff is circulating.
SPEAKER_06So you have about 150 pieces now going it just like in what's that um the gra that uh movie gravity with right there's so much by internet yeah yeah think about the internet think about uh so the Chinese might not be dumb it's like oh okay you're gonna put up all a million data centers and all this stuff hey guess what why don't we just sprinkle a couple cascading catastrophic yeah speaking of data centers and don't need you don't need emp you don't need shit on bling right and so i've always I've always I've always been this advocate in writing about data centers in the ocean instead of space because it's already cold and it's cheaper and it's like right next door and I saw some news like a couple days ago Peter Thiel is investing in some and I saw a picture of it. It wasn't going to be under the ocean but it was going to float on the ocean and it looked like this big bubble thing and it was floating on the ocean same stuff I wrote about is going to use wave energy. No the entrance most of the internet is at the ocean floor actually um and so a lot of the same concepts except not putting it underwater it was had floating so I thought that was interesting and there was some short video of it I don't know yeah could be you know I don't know if they're gonna circulate ocean water through it or something I don't know um but I thought that was interesting. So one other interesting thing today in the in American history about 50 miles about 50 miles from where I live in Galveston Texas back in 1865 these people finally arrived in Galveston like a couple years too late to proclaim that the slaves have been freed you know that Abraham Lincoln's you know emancipation proclamation I guess because they didn't have the internet back then or something you know they couldn't get the message texted them Rob no one no one texted them to say hey by the way free these guys and so yeah yeah I'm sure I'm sure there's some other insidious I'm sure there's some insidious things where people said oh no we didn't get the message um we got a lot of cotton to pick so I didn't get that message yeah I I I I totally get that and so and I know like at a few about 20 40 minutes from now in Galveston they do a reenactment every year at at the place where they showed up and everything and there's a chapel And so they have some guy who's dressed up like the general who showed up and reads this proclamation. And yeah, it's a big deal. And it's always been a big deal in Texas, but it's only recently in the last few years become a national holiday for Juneteenth. And so that's it's interesting. I don't know what caused it to finally bubble up where the rest of the country found out about this local thing that we knew about. But yeah.

It's like I don't have that kind of pull, but man, it's kind of a cool event taking over that yeah restricted airspace with all the people and where where is it at?

SPEAKER_01Let me change the topic. I I was reading the latest Wired uh magazine from July August. Um they are talking about uh yeah, maybe you already talked about the episode about uh ARM's chip. Yeah. Yes. So what do you think about ARM making a real chip instead of designing them?
SPEAKER_02That's they never really designed them to begin with. They only they only designed. No, they didn't design chips. That's their whole business is designing chips. They didn't make them, but they designed them. They designed cores, IP, and then they moved toward uh having um what do you call it, these blueprints for creating, let's say, IoT stuff or smartphone stuff. Here's the blueprint to make an ARM chip by a fact. But they didn't they would but you have chip designers like Apple and Qualcomm, they're the ones that actually design the chip, and then those get taken from the blueprint from ARM. Yeah, from the blueprint. Okay. But you know, you could buy like you know, um, you know, a wide range of um CPU cores. You could uh yeah, so CPU, GPU, like IPU, blah blah blah, and stitch them all together.
SPEAKER_06And so I think it's a great idea for ARM to do that because what they were doing was great and they gave this amazing technology to the whole world. Um, but I'm sure people were sitting around in a conference room saying, huh, how can we increase our TAM for our business? Oh, I know. What if we actually made the chips ourselves that we're creating these blueprints for? Let's give it a try. And um, you know, so more power to them.
SPEAKER_00And I'm sure that you know uh what about Apple?
SPEAKER_06I'm sure the licensees would have been happy. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's and it it is it's a CPU, right? It's that AGI uh CPU for data center. And yeah, like when I I mean I I was at uh ARM Anywhere and I was I I talked to Renee and I jokingly said, so is this an application? Are we entering the age of the application-specific CPU? And he started laughing. Uh and I told him, dude, I think we coined a new term. But that's that's like it, you know, it's pretty much um, you know, application-specific for AI hyperscale inference, right? So a lot of this agentic stuff, and it's being driven by Meta at the moment because they have huge inference workloads that they they need to drive you know optimization through. And then these systems are heterogeneous. They're not all accelerator-based, right? So um and yeah, you know, it's an open space. I think it's more of a threat for uh AMD and Intel than anyone else. Um, you know, uh NVIDIA has a captive, has their own captive market of themselves. And they're to, you know, hyperscalers, they're selling mostly networking. That's the growing business for them. Neo clouds, that's just all about you know, GPUs and blah blah blah. So they're going full stack there. And NVIDIA has their things are changing.
SPEAKER_00Nvidia has their blue. I feel like I really kind of hated 2026 because everyone came out with their blueprints and frameworks. Like everyone, it was just like, what are you talking about? What is this for? What are you doing with this? And there's it's this massive write-up of how to do something or the way they're gonna do something, right? Um, but the other thing that came out recently was Cristiano Alman said that we are not going to see these app stores anymore that AI agents are gonna take over the app stores or the apps, the software apps. So I thought that was kind of like, hmm, what do you guys think about that?
SPEAKER_06We've been hearing something about that. Uh that the future with all these agents and you won't need software, and and all this enterprise software is all threatened now because oh, anybody can just spin up clawed code and build an ERP system to replace SAP.
SPEAKER_00It may not be it's scary to me. It's like no guardrails, let's just go. Um, I I had that conversation with the cable executives this week, and that was one of the, you know, one of the conversations is is like how AI is just embedded into everything that we're using or you know, using in the workforce, and that we're not even going to be calling it AI. It's just it's just inherent, it's just there, and it's doing all of these things, and even the the work, the average worker may not even be aware of what's working in the background or what this means, or if the data, the data that's being ingested is accurate, high quality. Is it their own data? You know, so I I think that the the enterprise side, you know, businesses, the business leaders are really trying to get their arms around what does this mean for my business, my operations, how are my customers using it? And then, oh my gosh, my workforce has been using it way like for for they've been using it with or without my approval already.
SPEAKER_02So well, yeah, so here this is what I'll tell you right now. Um when you look at agents, everyone thinks that the agent is an AI. The reality is you have this whole harness wrapper, all of it is code. And so if you look at what Apple's doing, if you paid attention at WD WWDC 2026 and didn't just watch the keynote and think that shit is boring, which it was. It was I mean the thing is if you watch that, you completely missed out on what they were presenting. They they had some really cool stuff in the developer sessions. I don't know if they do this shit on purpose, but the cool stuff is never in the keynote. And one of the things that you notice about what they're doing is they're making the OS, iOS, Mac OS, they're making that the Uber harness. And that's what a lot of the OEMs are trying to do. So whether it's Lenovo or Samsung, they're kind of in a position of doing that, and same with Google. Um a lot more than I would say Microsoft, because the PC space is like really goofy and weird, so fragmented, it's really difficult to do that. But you're gonna have code, you're gonna have apps, and the more you look at what you're dealing with with agents, it it ends up being code, more code. And you want deterministic outcomes, you're moving away from MCP, you're going to direct interfaces, well-defined, standardized interfaces. There's nothing wrong with that stuff. Yeah, you know, Leonard, you don't have the semantic layer that uses everything.
SPEAKER_00This week was the first time I met with uh a vendor that was pitching to me AI agents, um, you know, literally full-time employees, FTE AI agents, right? Really, and and showcasing me their capabilities and how they could work for me for Compass Intelligence and for VMARC. And like I it's not I'm not surprised by like what they showed me and what they demoed and all of that. And I think Mark would agree with your statement about like the fun part and the most interesting stuff is the the the actual developers, the people that are making things. But you know, I got my hands on that and was looking at all the possibilities, and of course, my mind goes gets up at that real real high level, and I start to look at what's possible. Yeah, um, but also I have that distrust out there, you know. I'm like, where are you pulling this data? Where is the source? You know, and and you know, all of that scares me because I'm like, I can't go run with something like this.
SPEAKER_02Because you know most people don't know any of that stuff, and so they they're not concerned. Uh, and that's one of the reasons why like enterprise AI is so so slow being so slowly adopted, is because seriously, like when I was at Cisco Live, you talked to this uh, you know, uh people are just uh don't know, they're just finding out now. And you know, we're at Nebus um you know, inflection, and there's all this talk about, you know, um now trying to make uh vector databases for enterprise, they haven't solved the problem for three years ago. Oh, make them secure, yeah. And then it's like, hey, you know, uh pine cone. Oh, you know what? None of those guys, it's a technology that can't do what these guys uh think that it can do, and nobody has solved the problem, and largely because no the recognition of the problem is not broad. And so people are now three years behind on understanding security for AI. Isn't that true? No, Leonard, you said it is amazing.
SPEAKER_06You said something important years, you said something important a few minutes ago, Leonard, and we were just talking about agents or code, you know, and people not realizing that. Um I I remember when I finally discovered that agents were code, it was like there I was in this hallway, and the agent Smith and these guys were down there, and they started and they started they started shooting me or whatever, and I and it and they killed me, and then I came back to life, and then all of a sudden I'm looking at the agents, and it was like ones and zeros, and then they shot me again, and I stopped the bullets and everything, and that's when I realized that I am the one and I'm Neo, and that the agents are code because you can manipulate the harness, you can manipulate the code. Exactly. So it changed it changed my life forever, and so it's been kind of cool.

SPEAKER_00It's not well the you know, I can say that some of some of the most successful, I would say, uh, uses of AI that is happening in the enterprise is where they're ingesting their own proprietary data, their own corporate data. All of the things that they keep very private in their own in-house, you know, whether that's for training, simulation, um, summarizing, educating, like that part I think is a given. If you're not doing that already, like you are already you're pretty far behind.
SPEAKER_06But it's oh, you sound like an analyst.
SPEAKER_00If you're not doing this, you're oh my god, do I sound like I just don't want to sound like chat GPT, please.
